Stephenville state champ Kendal Briles to lead offense at Florida Atlantic

Kendal Briles, a 1998 and 1999 state champion at Stephenville High School, is leaving Baylor to be offensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic.

(December 24, 2016) — Kendal Briles won state championships at Stephenville High School in 1998 and 1999. Now he’s the offensive coordinator for Lane Kiffin at Florida Atlantic.

Kendal Briles was on his father’s Art Briles’ Baylor staff from 2008-2015, becoming offensive coordinator the last season. He and other members of the Briles staff were kept on for 2016 when Jim Grobe was brought in to lead Baylor as interim coach for one season.

Kiffin is currently offensive coordinator at Alabama, which is ranked No. 1 entering the College Football Playoff.

Kendal Briles was a star at safety in 1998 and Associated Press 4A Offensive Player of the Year as a quarterback in 1999. He left Stephenville when his father did prior to the 2000 season. Art Briles became running backs coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas Tech and Kendal was the 2000 AP 4A Offensive Player of the Year at Wolfforth Frenship in Lubbock.

Art Briles became the head coach of Houston, then ultimately Baylor, where Kendal spent a total of nine years on staff.
