Bees drop Whataburger consolation final to Argyle Liberty Christian

(December 30, 2016) — Stephenville cut a 12 point deficit to two early in the fourth quarter, but the 10-0 Honeybee run was answered by a decisive 12-0 finishing surge by Argyle Liberty Christian, which won, 53-41, in the consolation final of the Whataburger Classic Blue Division at Saginaw High School Friday afternoon.

Class 4A No. 10 Stephenville won back-to-back consolation bracket games on Thursday to reach the final, but struggled against TAPPS 6A No. 9 Argyle Liberty Christian, especially against guard Tatum Barber, who scored 11 of her 18 in the first quarter to be sure her team played from ahead.

Stephenville did not have a double-digit scorer and was led by Jayci Morton with eight. Ebony Green added seven, while Hailey Martin, Payton Wall and Jordan Carter each contributed six. Blair Landes scored four, Madison Carter two and Liz Pack two.

The Bees went 2-2 in the 59th annual Whataburger Classic, also falling to Sanger, in overtime, while defeating Christoval and 4A No. 7 Abilene Wylie.

Stephenville visits Venus in 8-4A district play on Tuesday, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
