STEPHENVILLE (January 31, 2017) — The Stephenville girls soccer team is ranked fifth in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A poll.
The Honeybees have turned heads and raised eyebrows with a 59-2 goal margin and 10 straight wins for an 11-1 record. They host 5A Waco High at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lem Brock Field, their first match at their home stadium this season, after the combination of weather and a shortage of officials forced a prior match to be delayed a day and moved to Granbury.
The Bees have played in Stephenville, however, winning five straight in the Knights of Columbus Challenge of Champions for their second straight championship in the event. Their last win was a 12-1 road rout of Burkburnett behind five goals from Ciara Johnston, one of nine freshmen that have helped to restock a roster depleted by the loss of 16 graduates in 2016.
Following the Waco match, Stephenville visits Venus and Mineral Wells the next two Fridays and opens district against perennial power Abilene Wylie on Valentine’s Day.
