STEPHENVILLE (March 21, 2017) – With the beginning of spring right around the corner, Tarleton is gearing up for its 19th annual Round Up. The Tarleton State Round Up is an annual day of service for students to give back to the local community. This year the Round Up will be April 1.
Job site applications are still available online at www.tarleton.edu/roundup or by emailing Erin Warner at email@example.com. Applications can be scanned and emailed to Warner, turned into Tarleton’s Office of Student Engagement in room 103 of the Barry B. Thompson Student Center, or mailed to Tarleton State University – c/o Round Up Committee, Box T-0690, Stephenville, Texas 76402.
“We do not have a deadline,” public relations coordinator Megan Heard said. “We are accepting [job site applications] until the day of.”
In years past students have washed windows, gardened, taken care of lawn work, recycled and more for Stephenville residents. This year will be no exception.
“With Tarleton Round Up we are actually reaching into the community of Stephenville,” Heard said. “The community of Stephenville has opened their arms so lovingly to us. If we can give half the love back, then I think that Tarleton as a student body wants to be able to give back to them.”
Last year 1600 students volunteered, which was about a 75 percent increase from the year before. This year the Tarleton Round Up Coordinating Committee hopes to increase the number of volunteers to 2500.
“A lot of Greek organizations will sign up together, and then the ROTC and some of thesports teams as well,” Heard said. “You don’t have to be a Tarleton student to help with the event. Last year Timber Ridge donated breakfast. We will take any help we are offered.”
Businesses, individuals and organizations can email Warner or call 254-968-9256 for more information.
“It’s just a day where we can all get together and work together for a common purpose,” Heard said.
