Erath County athletes win big at RodeoHouston

(March 30, 2017) — Four local athletes cashed in big at Rodeo Houston, two of them capturing super series championships at the prestigious bracket-style event that is annually one of the banner parts of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Dublin barrel racer Kassie Mowry and Stephenville team roping header Zac Small won super series championships and paced their already productive performances at the rodeo with $50,000 championship pay days.

Mowry, who has been on a major tear including a fraternity win in December, raced through the cloverleaf in 14.06 seconds for her win.

Small, in partnership with heeler Levi Lord, tied an arena record when they roped head and heels in 4.1 seconds. They split evenly the $100,000 payout.

Tie-down roper Sterling Smith put the icing on the cake to his RodeoHouston showing, roping and tying his calf in 8.4 seconds for second place and $20,000 in the super series championship. Isaac Diaz of Desdemona took third in the championship round of saddle bronc riding, scoring 84 points for $10,000.
