STEPHENVILLE – The top nine spots in the regional poll remained unchanged over the past week, which means the Tarleton TexAnns held their ground on the No. 7 spot in the region heading into this weekend’s regular season finale.

With a record of 32-19 under first-year head coach Mark Cumpian, Tarleton is back in the regional rankings for the first time since the 2015 season when the TexAnns won their first region championship and advanced to the NCAA Super Regional Series for the first time in school history. The TexAnns head to UT Permian Basin this weekend for a three-game series against the Falcons.

The top three teams in the region consist of familiar Tarleton foes as Angelo State, West Texas A&M, and St. Mary’s occupy the top three positions of the poll. Colorado Mesa, Cameron, and Texas Woman’s hold on to the No. 4, 5, and 6 positions ahead of the TexAnns while Lubbock Christian rounds out the top eight. Texas A&M-Commerce remains at No. 9 while Colorado Mines jumped ahead of Metro State to take over the No. 10 spot.

Eight teams will represent the South Central Region in the NCAA playoffs, which includes the tournament champions from the Lone Star, Heartland, and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences as well as five at-large teams from those leagues. The top two seeds in the region will play host to a double elimination tournament, after which the winning teams from each location will meet in the Super Regional Series for the chance to play in the Women’s College World Series.

The NCAA Softball Selection Show is scheduled for Monday, May 8 at 9 a.m. CST on NCAA.com.
