STEPHENVILLE (May 9, 2017) — Aiavion Edwards is headed to an NFL Mini-Camp with the Los Angeles Chargers, according to a Stephenville High School coach in communication with the former Yellow Jacket star.

The 2012 Stephenville graduate started at linebacker in all 13 games at Baylor last season, leading the team with 98 tackles including 5.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Edwards starred at safety as a sophomore at Stephenville, before spending the bulk of his high school career as a standout running back. He even saw time in the playoffs at linebacker as a freshman, and went on to help Stephenville reach four consecutive state quarterfinals in what is now Class 5A.

Edwards also played basketball and competed in track and field for the Yellow Jackets.

Edwards is one of two players with local ties invited to NFL mini-camps this weekend, joining Tarleton State defensive back Dominique Martin. Mini-camp invites do not guarantee a contract, but give players an opportunity to earn a spot in an official preseason training camp.
