(May 13, 2017) — Another local competitor has completed their performances at the UIL Track & Field State Meet, and she is only area athlete to place in two events.

Shelby Polk, a junior at Hico, placed fourth in the 300 meter hurdles a little more than an hour after placing fifth in the 100 hurdles during the 2A-3A running events at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin Saturday.

Polk was the regional champion in the 100 hurdles and the runner-up in the 300s, automatically qualifying to run both at state, where she finished the 100s in 15.80 seconds and the 300s in 47.87.

Polk was one of 11 local competitors at the state meet, nine of which performed on Friday Stephenville senior Kylee Ponder competing in the 4A girls 100 meter dash at 7:05 p.m.

Polk and boys pole vaulter Parker Wood represented Hico at the championship competition with Wood competing Friday morning.
