Seven from Tarleton track and field earn all-region honors

STEPHENVILLE (May 18, 2017) — Tarleton Track & Field had seven athletes named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region team.

The top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions’ top-3 relay teams.

For the TexAnns, Ashley Johnson and Arianna Stegall were both named All-Region for two events. Johnson received awards for the 400-meter dash, and 4×400-meter relay. The senior from Mexia set the school record for the 400-meter dash at the West Texas A&M Last Chance Meet with a time of 55.19 and ranks first in the Lone Star Conference. Stegall earned an honor for the 400-meter hurdles as she ran a career best 1:00.68 this season and ranks third in the LSC.

The TexAnns 4×400-meter relay team (Johnson, Ariel Ballard, Kara Bickham, and Stegall) received the award from USTFCCCA after ranking second in the LSC this season. Roxana Hernandez earned an All-Region honor for high jump, she ranks fifth in the LSC as she cleared 5′ 7.25″ (1.71m) at the Cactus Cup.

On the men’s side, Chantz Chambers and Rascellis Williams were honored for their performances in field events. Chambers currently ranks second in the LSC with a jump of 24′ 9.25″ (7.55m) in the long jump, and Williams is also ranked second as he cleared 6′ 11″ (2.11m) in the high jump this season.

Tarleton will compete at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday May 25 through Saturday May 27.
