FM 8 closed several hours due to fatality crash

ERATH COUNTY (May 25, 2017) – An Eastland County man is dead after a head-on collision on FM 8, four miles west of Stephenville, Thursday.

According to Sr. Trooper Dub Gillium with the Texas DPS, Jerry Sanders, 52 of Joshua, was driving a 2007 Peterbilt and an empty trailer owned by Jack Heard Trucking east on FM 8 when he encountered a 2010 Pontiac G6 driven by Guillermo Sergio Montano, 23 of Olden headed west. Troopers reported the Pontiac failed to maintain a single lane and drove into the eastbound lane, striking the truck head on.

First responders including Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue, Erath County First Responders, Erath County EMS, Lingleville VFD and others were dispatched to the scene at 4:53 p.m. Upon arrival, first responders called for Erath County Justice of the Peace Shawnee Bass, who pronounced Montano dead at the scene.

Sanders was treated at the scene by EMS for minor scrapes, cuts and bruises, but was otherwise unhurt, authorities reported.

Texas Highway Patrol in Stephenville is investigating the crash and still attempting to locate the victim’s family. Officials reported the roadway sustained major damages from the crash and TXDOT was on scene at 7:15 p.m. Thursday and still had both lanes shut down.
