STEPHENVILLE (JUNE 1, 2017) — The ‘King’ of burgers is returning to the City of Champions.

Burger King, a giant in the fast food restaurant industry, will have a location in Stephenville just past the TexStar Ford Lincoln Mercury auto dealership on West Washington Street.

The deal has been in the works for some time, with the biggest hangup concerning the size of sign the business could post in front of its location.

Stephenville’s Board of Adjustments met Thursday and quickly approved installation of a sign measuring 64 square feet (8×8). It is smaller than originally requested, but roughly double the approximately 16 square feet allowed by the pertinent ordinance, based on a percentage of frontage space. Approval came after hearing arguments from TexStar owner Doug Montgomery and a representative of Sonic Drive in, a fast food restaurant located across the highway from the future Burger King location.

Stephenville was once home to a Burger King restaurant located adjacent to the Bosque River Shopping Center, but it closed two decades ago.

Currently, the closest Burger King locations are in Granbury and Glen Rose.
