Escaped Erath County inmate found in the dog house, literally

ERATH COUNTY (June 9, 2017) – Friday afternoon was an eventful one in Erath County. At approximately 4 p.m. an inmate from the Erath County Jail, later identified as Joshua Allen Daniel, 29, was able to escape custody while he was in the recreation yard.

According to a release from Chief Deputy Heath Crossland, at 4:30 p.m. a perimeter was set up around the building and all units, including those from Stephenville PD and Dublin PD, as well as K-9 units, were dispatched to assist Erath County Sheriff’s Office with the search.  Crossland said, while holding the perimeter and coordinating the arrival of additional units, the Special Crimes Unit with ECSO and SPD were activated and began investigating the situation.

Special Crimes began working leads and discovered Daniel had assistance in his escape from Erath County by his girlfriend Tiffany Cehand. They informed the public the two may be headed north to Oklahoma in a light colored or silver Dodge Charger.

Several hours into the search, law enforcement in Erath County was contacted by Cehand, who called SPD dispatch and advised she was somewhere near Fort Worth, but she and Daniel had separated from one another.

Erath County contacted Fort Worth PD and Tarrant County Sheriff’s deputies who were able to locate Cehand and her silver Charger. Cehand was detained by law enforcement while officers continued the search for Daniel.

According to cell phone information officers were able to obtain, a perimeter was set up in a neighborhood in the 11000 block of Camp Bowie in Fort Worth. While Fort Worth PD and Tarrant County SO were searching in the perimeter, residents in the area reported a prowler and units were able to locate Daniel hiding in a dog house in a backyard off Camp Bowie.

Both Daniel and Chant were booked into the Tarrant County Jail and will be transported back to the Erath County Jail on charges of escape and facilitation of escape.

Officials with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office said they were pleased with the cooperation between the many law enforcement agencies during the search and a full investigation is ongoing as to how Daniel escaped the jail.
