STEPHENVILLE (June 21, 2017)  – Head coach Misty Wilson has announced the first transfer to her recruiting class as the defending champions of the Lone Star Conference Tournament added Katie Webster to the roster.

“Katie is a player that we recruited out of high school and we are very happy to get her back for the last two years of her career,” said Wilson. “Katie is a great shooter on the perimeter and her size gives her some versatility on the floor as well. She can play on the perimeter but has the ability to defend a post player.

“I’m confident that Katie will come in and learn our system quickly and really thrive in it,” she continued. “She is the type of student-athlete that we actively pursue because she is a great student and a tremendous young lady off the floor. She is the epitome of a TexAnn and we know she will make an immediate impact on the Tarleton campus and within our program.”

Webster comes to Tarleton after a two-year stint with Long Beach State that culminated in a Big West Conference Tournament championship and a trip to the NCAA postseason last March. In her career, Webster played in 59 games including 30 as a sophomore last season. She earned four starts for the 49ers last year and had a career outing against the University of Nevada with 12 points and seven rebounds.

She went to Long Beach State after starring on the court for four seasons at Rockwall Heath High School.

At Heath, Webster was a four-year starter for head coach Devin Gabbard. She was a three-time Team MVP, the two-time District 12-5A Offensive MVP, a four-time first-team all-district selection, and a two-time TGCA All-State honoree. She holds the single season and career records for assists, 3-point field goals made, and points. She was also a four-time academic all-district award winner.

She becomes the first transfer to join the TexAnn recruiting class this offseason and joins incoming freshman Nina Alvarez (Duncanville), Haley Feisler (Burnet), Ruthie Fox (Odessa), Makaila Tyer (Godley), Lucy Benson (Kennedale), and Deziray Turner (Austin) as the newest members of the Tarleton Women’s Basketball Program.
