STEPHENVILLE (June 30, 2017) — Stephenville softball has made quite the leap onto everyone in the sport’s radar the last two years, especially among top contenders in Conference 4A.

The Honeybees climbed as high as No. 5 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association 4A rankings this past spring, after reaching No. 6 in the same poll last year. They made their longest playoff run in 2016, getting to the regional quarterfinals, and set their program record with 26 wins this spring before falling to Brownwood in the area round.

So it’s with plenty of momentum that the returning and upcoming varsity players have taken the field for their four games in the Cross Timbers Summer Softball League.

With one of the four remaining, Stephenville has not just won each game, but been dominant in doing so. The Honeybees and star pitcher Julia Flores have surrendered just one run in wins over Dublin, Granbury and Mineral Wells, the most recent opponent which Stephenville beat 4-0 Thursday evening. The Bees conclude Cross Timbers action against Clifton at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at McCleskey Field in Stephenville City Park

But Thursday won’t be the final time Stephenville suits up this summer, as the Bees will once again compete in the fast-approaching High School Eligible State Tournament. Stephenville City Park will host it again, with this year’s event set for Friday, July 14 and Saturday, July 15. Stephenville head coach Rus Mayes says the event could begin Thursday, but only if enough teams are added to warrant a third day.
