AUSTIN (July 21, 2017) – Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller has been elected as Vice President of the Southern United States Trade Association (SUSTA) at their 2017 annual conference. SUSTA, which is comprised of 16 southern state departments of agriculture, helps small companies in the southern U.S. promote value-added food and agricultural products to foreign markets.

“I am honored to have been elected as vice president,” Commissioner Miller said. “We have an excellent international marketing program here at the Texas Department of Agriculture and I think it shows. SUSTA has been a great help in our efforts to reach foreign markets and I look forward to working with other SUSTA states to find new and innovative ways to broaden our reach.”

As part of his new role, Commissioner Miller is planning to travel to Germany in October for SUSTA’s first executive board global event. The board will be visiting the largest food trade show in the world, learning about the changing European market and gaining insight and experience on marketing for this and other overseas events.

Like many organizations, the position of vice president is an opportunity to prepare a member to assume the leadership position after one year. Commissioner Miller will become president of SUSTA at the conference in 2018.
