Masters, Graves win team roping at California Rodeo Salias

(July 24, 2017) — Lipan header Chad Masters and Morgan Mill heeler Travis Graves won the team roping average at California Rodeo Salinas, one of the more grueling rodeos for team ropers with five head.

Masters and Graves took the steady route to the championship, making the money in just two of five rounds – fourth in the third in 9.7 for $1,115 and fifth with a 9.3 in the finals for $376. Their total of 50.5 on five won the average by 1.7 seconds for a payout of $5,495 giving each a total take of more than $7,000 at the rodeo.

Luke Brown of Stephenville and Jake Long of Morgan Mill finished third in the average and Morgan Mill heeler Dakota Kirchenschlager and his partner, Lane Ivy, were fourth.

Past Tarleton cowboy Reese Riemer finished fourth and Stephenville’s Sterling Smith eighth in tie-down roping.
