RANGER (August 24, 2017) – Ranger College has rounded out its athletic hiring’s for their upcoming season. Scott Norwood has been brought in to replace Josh Blakely. On the other diamond, Megan Low takes over regional tournament team and Houston Moore has returned to Ranger to take over the golf programs.
Norwood came to RC after two years out of head coaching.
“The administration from Dr. (Bill) Campion to coach (Billy) Gillespie, demonstrated a willingness to help us turn this program around,” said Norwood. “I believe Ranger College is in one of the premier NJCAA baseball conferences in the country and I look forward to helping Ranger baseball return to its winning traditions.”
Norwood is best known for his six-year run at the University of Little Rock. He led the Trojans to the 2011 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Title and a NCAA Regional Appearance. That is the only NCAA Tournament appearance in the 42-year history of the program.
He also had a championship shot while coaching D-II Ouachita Baptist University. The Tigers finished as the national runner-up in 2008.
Norwood added Mark Jones as an assistant who was working in the same position at Abilene Christian University.
While Norwood comes to RC with years of experience, Low takes over a program for the first time. For the past two seasons, she was an assistant at Texas A&M University.
“I’m really looking forward to building relationships with the athletes and helping them get to the next level,” Low said. “I think being at a junior college is an incredible opportunity to help athletes who were overlooked or just need the small classroom size. I am excited to recruit blue collar kids who have a passion for the game and teach them what it takes to continue on and play at the highest level.”
While working closely with the Aggie pitchers, Low helped A&M reach the College World Series.
Low played at the University of San Antonio. She was named a captain and became the first-ever player drafted from UTSA when the Akron Racers selected her in the National Pro Softball League.
Moore is also a first-time head coach, but this isn’t his first experience at RC. He played for the Rangers for two years before making the move to LeTourneau University.
“I wanted to the position here at Ranger College to turn the golf program in the right direction and help these players get to the next level,” Moore said.
The golf season starts September 10 when both the men’s and women’s teams take part in the Texas Intercollegiate Tournament hosted by Texas Wesleyan University.
