Dublin dominates at home; Bees struggle in Leander

(August 24, 2017) —  Dublin (9-4) remained unbeaten at home by cruising through pool play in its Dublin Athletic Booster Club Tournament Thursday.

The Lady Lions combined to outscore De Leon, Abilene Christian and Venus 150-79, wining each match  in straight sets (best 2 of 3 in tournament play). Their head coach, Dublin alumna Ryan Lewis was pleased.

“The girls did a great job executing everything we have worked on today. They played well each set and did a great job mixing up their attacks,” Lewis said. “Everything looked good today.”

The tournament continues Saturday at Neff Gym and the DHS auxiliary gyms. Dublin begins with an early bird special, taking on Mineral Wells at 8 a.m.

-Kyleigh Bamber 4 aces with a perfect 1.000 percentage on 15 serves; also made 13 digs
-Kylie Curtoys 8 assists, 4 digs
-Angelica Linan killed 5 balls and aced a serve
-Bailey Noel 3 kills and a block
-Joley Chisholm 2 aces
-Team: 7 service aces (3.5 perset) but also five service errors on 48 total serves

-Team collects 11 of 49 serves with only two service errors for serve percentage of .959
-Kylie Curtoys aced 4 of 12 serves, added 4 assists
-Joley Chisholm 3 aces, 2 kills
-Jordyn Ricks 3 assists, 1 dig
-Abilene Christian errors were biggest difference as Dublin collected only seven kills and assists and needed only nine digs.
-Ponder this: Dublin had more aces than digs

Stephenville was not as fortunate against much larger schools, competing as a 4A member in the primarily 5A and 6A Volleypalooza Tournament, one of the pristine events of the Texas volleyball regular season.

The Honeybees (11-14) are among the teams electing to remain in Leander – north or Austin – for the remainder of the event, while 16 teams have withdrawn as Texas prepares for the arrival of a hurricane moving through the Gulf of Mexico.

The Bees play at 9 and 10 a.m. Friday against Huntsville then Austin Anderson.
