STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton men’s basketball team has announced the 2017-18 schedule with the Texans opening up against Texas A&M in College Station for an exhibition game on Nov. 3.

“The Texas A&M game is a great opportunity for our basketball program and university,” said head coach Lonn Reisman. “Playing against an SEC team like Texas A&M will provide tremendous exposure and visibility for Tarleton State University and give our players a chance to play against a Division I opponent.”

This will be the second time Tarleton has played Texas A&M. The two schools met in 2007 and the Texans pulled within five points of the then-No. 14 Aggies with a minute to go, only to fall 71-62.

For the regular season games, the Texans will play 28 games, including 19 games at Wisdom Gym. Tarleton will open the season with the Texan Tip-Off Classic from Nov. 10-11 and take on Metro State and Colorado Springs. Other non-conference opponents include St. Mary’s on Nov. 25, Western Oregon on Dec. 12, and Queens (N.C.) on Dec. 30. It’s the first-ever matchup against Western Oregon, who made it to the 2016 Final Four. It’s also the first time playing Queens, who went 30-4 last season and advanced to the Sweet 16.

“We have another tough schedule against some high-quality teams,” added Reisman. “Our non-conference games this year will really test this young group and help prepare us for the strength of the Lone Star Conference.”

The Texans begin Lone Star Conference play on Nov. 30 with a trip to Midwestern State. The first home conference game for the Texans is against Western New Mexico on Dec. 7. The WNMU game will be the first of seven straight home games. All LSC games are played on Thursdays and Saturdays this season.

Tarleton’s longest road trip of the season will be from Feb. 1-10 when the Texans travel to Eastern and Western New Mexico, followed by games at Texas A&M-Kingsville and Angelo State.

The Texans will end the regular season with four straight home games, with three of them being LSC contests against Texas A&M-Commerce, UT Permian Basin and West Texas A&M.

The LSC Championship Tournament is set for March 1-4 at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco.

The Texans are coming off a 22-8 campaign last season where they advanced to the NCAA tournament for the eighth straight year.
