(August 30, 2017) — A five-set marathon ending with three consecutive two-point sets went to Poolville Tuesday in a 25-21, 16-25, 28-26, 23-25, 16-14 win over Dublin.

The Lady Lions dropped their third straight, including the final two matches of their home tournament last weekend, their only home losses of the season. Dublin competes in its final tournament of the season beginning Thursday and concluding Saturday in Hillsboro.

WILD NIGHT:
What a night of volleyball for Erath County teams. Stephenville lost in five at home to Granbury, including four consecutive two-point sets and 221 total points. Not to be outdone, Dublin and Poolville combined for 219 points, with Dublin actually topping that count, 111-108, thanks to its nine-point win in the second set.

AMASSING ACES:
Dublin continues to amass service aces at a seemingly ridiculous pace. The Lady Lions aced 19 serves at Poolville, making their six service errors with the trouble. Joley Chisholm was in her own realm with nine service aces, the most in one match by any local player whose stats have been reported to The Flash Today. Chisholm served 31 times with just one error.

BALANCED UP FRONT:
Even with five sets, no Lady Lion reached double figures in kills. Instead, it was an all around effort as Jordyn Ricks had eight kills, Addison Stout seven, Angelica Linan six and Bailey Noel six to lead the way.

ALL THE WAY AROUND:
Ricks doesn’t take much time off for the Lady Lions. In addition to her eight kills, she had 15 assists and seven digs while acing three serves.
Hailey Ortega collected 19 digs and four aces, Kylie Curtoys 13 digs assists and seven digs and Kyleigh Bamber 19 digs, three kills and 13 serves without an ace.

COACH SPEAK:
“Overall this is the best we have played on the road. The girls are learning to fight from behind and are doing a great job improving their mental game. There were multiple times in the match where the girls could have gotten down and frustrated due to some calls and score issues, but instead of getting they just kept fighting. The main thing we struggled with was receiving aggressive serves. We ended the match against their strongest server and it played to their advantage. This was our first match to go beyond three sets and I thought we handled it well. We just need to fine tune a few things and next time it will be a win.” – Ryan Lewis, head coach, Lady Lions
