Atchley came to Tarleton in 2005 to work in the Center for Agribusiness Excellence. Three years later he became director of Institutional Research and in 2012 he moved into the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, becoming assessment coordinator, then director of applied and experiential learning, assistant professor, and graduate program coordinator.

“I’m very honored,” Atchley said. “We’ve got a great team of faculty and I would put our students up against any other department.”

He is a 1995 graduate of Texas Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in radio, TV and film. His MBA came from TCU in 2003 and he earned his doctorate in education in 2010 through a joint program of Texas Tech and Texas A&M.

“I want to keep growing our ag education, ag communication, horticulture, agribusiness and industries options,” he said. “I also want to look for new ways to expand our course offerings to meet current and future needs of students and employers and introduce our students to hands-on experiences that make them more competitive in the workplace.”
