Gee finishes second, TexAnns fourth at National Preview

HOUSTON – Tarleton Golf shot 6-over-par in the final round of the NCAA Division II National Preview to finish in fourth place.

The TexAnns knocked 10 strokes off their scorecards from round one and finished with a score of 304-294—598 (+22). Nova Southeastern won the tournament at the Bay Oaks Country Club with a score of 586 (+10).

For the second straight tournament, Sarah Gee led the TexAnns on the individual leaderboard by coming in second place and shooting even par. Gee shot 1-under-par 71 on the day to finish with an overall score of 73-71—144 (E). Gee finished the tournament with five birdies and 23 pars. The senior from Warminster, England also recorded an eagle in the first round on a 492-yard par 5.

Junie Khaw tied for 14th place with a 149 (+5). Khaw improved by three strokes in the final round, shooting a 73 (+1) after a 76 (+4) on Monday. Khaw led the TexAnns with 26 pars in the two rounds and also had three birdies.

Casey Leatherman had the biggest improvement in the tournament for the TexAnns, shooting eight strokes better in the final round to finish tied for 23rd with a 150 (+6). Leatherman carded a 79 (+7) in round one but shot a 71 (-1) to close out the tournament. Leatherman recorded 22 pars and four birdies in the two rounds.

Casey Wild shot a 156 (+12) and tied for 52nd. Wild had rounds of 76 and 80 with 18 pars and two birdies. Wild had an eagle in the first round on No. 18, a 381-yard par 4.

Breanna Smith finished with a 166 (+22) to tie for 68th. Smith had an eight-stroke improvement from her first round, carding an 87 on Monday and ended the tournament with a 79. Smith had 15 pars and two birdies.

Tarleton will compete in the Oklahoma Intercollegiate at the Fort Sill Golf Course in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on Oct. 16-17.
