(September 29, 2017) — Three double-digit kill performances and three double-digit collections of digs were just enough to save Stephenville at Gandy Gym Friday after the Honeybees blew a two-set lead, and very nearly lost the match in five against Waxahachie Life.

It seemed as if the Bees were headed for a ho-hum blow out typical of their volleyball series with Life, then the wheels came off in the third set of the 8-4A match.

Stephenville regathered itself in time to hold on 25-12, 25-15, 23-25, 22-25, 15-12. When sharing stats from the win, head coach Fran Metzger included a one-word description – “UGLY!”

Stephenville made a head scratching 60 errors, 40 of them receive errors. There were also 17 errors on the attack and missed serves.

But Jayci Morton landed 15 kills and blocked three shots while Salette Rios killed 15 balls, dug three and blocked three. Chloe Goodman added 11 kills. Hannah Huckabee set 22 assists and Gabie Lucero 17. Haile Martin collected 23 digs, Lucero had 14 for a double-double and Maren Isham also dug 14.

Stephenville has a tough task ahead Tuesday when the Bees visit No. 3 Midlothian Heritage Tuesday. Heritage swept Stephenville at Gandy Gym, including a 70-point second set that ended 36-34.
