THE GAME
Tarleton is looking for its second five-game winning streak in the last five seasons this weekend when the Texans make a 700-mile trek to Silver City, New Mexico for a road tilt against Western New Mexico Saturday at Ben Altamirano Field. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. MT / 1 p.m. CST.

ABOUT THE TEXANS
Tarleton is 4-1 on the season and sit atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 3-0 in conference play. The Texans are off to their best start since 2013 when they went 5-0 to open the season. Tarleton is averaging 31.2 points per game on 334 yards while holding teams to 23 points. Quarterback Zed Woerner comes in with 693 yards passing with eight touchdowns to only one interceptions. Jeff Thomas leads the team in receiving with 365 yards on 23 catches with four touchdowns, while Del’Michael High (273 yards, 2 TD) andSavon Rollison (163 yards, 2 TD) can bring problems to opposing defenses too. Xavier Turner is the top running back for the Texans, accounting for 367 yards on the ground and five touchdowns. Defensively, Basil Jackson leads the team in tackles with 56, followed byMichael Knobloch‘s 41 tackles. Tyrell Thompson leads the team with two sacks and three force fumbles.

ABOUT THE MUSTANGS
Western New Mexico is 0-5 to start the season. The Mustangs average 26 points per game on 473 yards and give up 41 points to opponents. Mustang quarterback Javia Hall comes in as one of the nation’s top passers, throwing for 1,981 yards and 15 touchdowns with nine interceptions. Hall’s top target is D’Angelo Bowie, who has 622 yards on 43 receptions and six scores. Running the ball for the Mustangs is Justin Harris, coming in with 340 yards and two touchdowns. Dominic Barry is the team’s leading tackler with 52. Despite having a winless record, the Mustangs have provided plenty of opposition to league opponents – playing Eastern New Mexico to a three-point game and taking a lead over Midwestern State into the fourth quarter last weekend.

INSIDE THE SERIES
It’s been 26 years since Tarleton ventured out to Silver City for the inaugural meeting between the Texans and Mustangs on November 14, 1991. Tarleton lost that first meeting 14-7 to Western New Mexico but have since won three straight against Western New Mexico, including a 44-41 barnburner in Stephenville last season as Lone Star Conference rivals. Tarleton holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series.

UP NEXT FOR TARLETON
Tarleton will return home to host Eastern New Mexico in an altered game time. The Texans were originally slated to play Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m. next Saturday, but kickoff has now been moved to 2 p.m.
