STEPHENVILLE – For the second time in her young career, Tarleton’s Amber Strange has been named the league’s defensive player of the week after leading the TexAnns to back-to-back wins over Cameron and Midwestern State.

Strange continued her dominance of the net as the freshman from Granbury boasted 12 blocks in seven sets to extend Tarleton’s winning streak to eight. Strange averaged 1.71 blocks per set, including matching her season-high with seven blocks against MSU, and landed 17 kills on a .294 hitting percentage.

In Tarleton’s four-set win over the Mustangs, a late kill from Strange started a match-clinching 12-2 run for the TexAnns – over which she scattered a kill and two blocks. Then Strange served up three straight before a Mustang error ended the match in Tarleton’s favor. Including the points from her serves, Strange had a hand in six of Tarleton’s final 10 points in the final-set victory over the Mustangs.

For the week, she totaled three aces, 17 kills, three digs, 12 blocks, and 27.0 points. She anchored a Tarleton defense that held the Aggies and Mustangs to a combined .050 hitting percentage.

This is Strange’s second career award, each of which have come over the last three weeks of action. Tarleton boasts a record of 15-4 overall and 7-1 in Lone Star Conference play. No. 15 Tarleton currently sits atop the Lone Star Conference standings and will travel to Eastern and Western New Mexico this weekend for 7 p.m. matches on Friday and Saturday.
