STEPHENVILLE (October 20, 2017) — As if hosting the No. 1 team in Conference 3A on senior day for five Honeybees – four players and a manager – isn’t enough of a draw, Stephenville has a bevy of other activities planned for Friday afternoon, including one that hits right at the heart.
It all starts at 4:30 p.m. against 3A No. 1 Glen Rose, which has locked up the top playoff seed from District 8-4A, and secures the league championship with a win Friday or Tuesday or a Midlothian Heritage loss Friday or Tuesday. The Honeybees are relegated to third place, and each are headed to the Region I-4A playoffs.
Pink out events are quite popular as cancer fundraisers, especially in October and not just for victims of breast cancer. Karen Wilson, a fifth grade teacher at Gilbert Intermediate School – part of SISD – suffers from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and despite her being unable to attend because of crowd risk, she will be honored and all proceeds will be donated to help her with medical expenses.
It’s Pack the Gym Day, so admission is free to the final match of the regular season, but donations will be accepted at the door, and other fundraisers will also be held in Gandy Gym and the high school foyer.
Seniors to be honored just before the start include players Hailey Martin, Kristen Pettit, Maren Isham and Ashton Garner as well as Bailey, their manager.
A few moments will also be set aside to recognize the Henderson Junior High volleyball teams and longtime coaches D’Anna Green and Pam Jones.
