EASTLAND (October 20, 2017) — A bad snape here, a loose handle on the football there, even missing short field goals.

It’s just the beginning of a list of football no-no’s when you’re taking on a top-tier opponent, especially on the road.

Dublin committed all those crucial errors and hten some at Mavericks Stadium Friday, as Eastland rolled to a 42-3 victory over the Lions. It was 21-3 by halftime when the Mavericks had 14 points off Dublin turnovers and the Lions had missed a short field goal. Eastland made it 28 points off takeaways by the end of the night.

The Mavericks appear headed to a District 4-3A-Division II championship showdown with Cisco, while the Lions return home to challenge a tough Tolar team at 7:30 p.m. next Friday, likely need two wins in their final three games to advance to the Region I-3A Division II playoffs. Their final two contests are winnable matchups against Coleman and Bangs.

EASTLAND (October 20, 2017) — Dublin suffered more of the same woes Friday, the self-inflicted variety.

A loose handle on the ball here, a bad snap and a missed field goal there, and suddenly an opponent as good as Eastland, especially on its home field, buries you.

In this instance, it equaled a 42-3 win by Eastland, Harris Poll’s 13th ranked team in the division and one of only two real contenders alongside rival Cisco for the District 4-3A Division II championship.

The Mavericks swelled their lead to 21-3 by halftime, thanks to 14 points off Dublin turnovers and a missed field goal by the Lions. More points off turrnovers followed the intermission for Eastland, using a short field thanks to a bad snap to move ahead 28-3 late in the third. The Mavs ended any doubt by recovering an onside kick then converting 4th-and-1 with a 39 yard touchdown run for a 35-3 lead. They tacked on the final seven points with six minutes remaining.

The Lions have another tough task ahead against Tolar. That battle is next Friday at Memorial Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. They follow it up with games aginsat Coleman and Bangs, needing two district wins – likely – be among the teams advancing to the Region I-3A Division II playoffs.
