STEPHENVILLE (October 23, 2017) — It’s the last day of the regular season for UIL volleyball, with Stephenville and Dublin still ironing out the playoff seeding in their respective districts.

The good news – both have locked up playoff spots. The bad news  – neither can finish in the top tow of their district. And remaining to be determined – will they bee seeded third or fourth entering the playoffs?

Stephenville is in third one match ahead of Waxahachie Life and visits Life Tuesday. First serve could be as early as 6 p.m. or as late as 6:30.

The Honeybees jumped out to a quick two-set lead over Life at Gandy Gym, but were started to see Life rally and push the match all the way to fifth set, won by the Bees to be alone in third halfway through District 8-4A.

That gives Stephenville the head’s up advantage, but the Bees must win at Life to retain that. If the Bees win they are third outright, while a Life win would result in a tie for that spot and begin a process of determining which school takes the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds into the playoffs.

Dublin has senior night festivities leading into its 6:30 p.m. home match with Breckenridge.

The second half of District 6-3A has seen Dublin suffer five-set losses to Eastland and Early while Breckenridge upset frontrunner Comanche. Dublin, having also lost twice to Comanche, has four district losses. Breckenridge has lost just twice – once each to Comanche and Dublin.

So how does it pan out?

A Comanche win Tuesday gives the Maidens a second straight outright district title. If they lose and Breckenridge beats Dublin, Comanche and Brekenridge split the district title.

Dublin retains sole possession of third with a win Tuesday. If the Lady Lions lose, they could end up in a tie for third with Eastland and have to settle the seedings accordingly.

And once all this is settled, we will scramble to get you the playoff lineup for next week’s bi-disrict matchups and area-round possibilities.
