STEPHENVILLE (October 27, 2017) — Stephenville tied an 11-year old school record Friday night, matching their highest ever single-game scoring total in a 71-0 throttling of winless Big Spring that could have been much worse.
The home side of the Memorial Stadium scoreboards were changing digits early and often while the visitor’s side could have gone without bulbs. A running clock and the absence of Stephenville’s starters – some for all, others for most of the second half – kept it from getting it worse, and it could have been as bad as Stephenville willed it to be in the 24th consecutive loss by the Steers.
The Yellow Jackets will be heavy favorites again next Friday – not like this, though – when they visit Snyder. A win there would mean their regular season finale against Wylie will be for the outright district championship in 3-4A Division I.
After leading 51-0 at intermission, Big Spring lost 32 yards on its opening possession of the second half. The Yellow Jackets then scored on one play, the third rushing TD by short-yardage bulldozer and star linebacker Blue Caylor, a stretch that pretty summed up the evening.
Easton Jones passed for two scores and rushed for one while Krece Nowak rushed for two.
