WICHITA FALLS (November 4, 2017) — There are so many ways I can go with the First Financial Bank First Flash here in the late afternoon hours at Memorial Stadium where Talreotn State just played admirably but lost 45-42 in overtime to the undefeated and No. 4 ranked, LSC champion Midwestern State Mustangs.

In the end, Tarleton killed itself when Zed Woerner – who was spectacular throughout regulation, don’t be mistaken – tried to force a pass over the middle and was picked off on third down on the first possession of overtime.

Brad Keith has covered Erath County sports through journalism or radio since 2000. His periodical columns have been a part of daily sports coverage since 2014 on TheFlashToday.com.

Then came a pass interference call I didn’t agree with, but was probably karma, because Tarleton, by all appearances had completed a pass to Xavier Turner only for him to fumble. MSU even grabbed the loose ball and was running away with a game-winning touchdown the other way, except the officials ruled the pass incomplete and TArleton got to punt the ball away and go to overtime.

Suffice it to say, any overtime game can be looked at and judged countless ways in favor of either team, because, indeed, one play, one call, one anything could clearly have changed the outcome.

What we saw was a great game, two outstanding offensive performances and a thrilling finish. And Tarleton put on this performance against the highest-ranked opponent the Texans have seen since 2013, when they shocked West Texas A&M.

Talreton lost, and moral victories suck. But we’re walking out of Memorial Stadium and beginning the 2 hour drive south back to Stephenville more confident than ever than Todd Whitten has this program headed in a positive direction and on a trajectory that will have them at or near the top of the LSC on a consistent  basis in the very (very, very) near future.

That’s a fun First Financial Bank First Flash to finish this crazy game on.

So let’s just leave it right there.

Game story to follow soon, from this wild affair in Wichita Falls.
