UCO downs TexAnns in first of two in Denton

DENTON (November 18, 2017) – Tarleton women’s basketball dropped its first game of the season to Central Oklahoma, 61-53, at the Texas Woman’s Tournament in Denton.

Tarleton (2-1) and Central Oklahoma (4-0) were tied at the half, but the Bronchos outscored the TexAnns 22-9 in the third quarter to pull away.

Mackenzie Hailey led the TexAnns with 17 points and seven rebounds, while Katie Webster added 10 points and eight rebounds.

UCO led 13-6 after the opening quarter and led by as much as 21-8 in the second before the TexAnns went on a 10-0 run that started with a Webster and McKinley Bostad’s 3-pointers made it a 21-18 lead.

Webster tied the game at 23-23 with 3:17 left in the half and the next possession Trejouir Wilson gave the TexAnns their first lead since the opening minutes of the game on a pair of free throws.

After the TexAnns led 34-32 with 5:35 left in the third quarter, UCO used a 19-4 run to take a 51-38 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

Kylie Collins drilled a 3-pointer followed by a layup from Hailey to cut the deficit to 53-47 with 6:02 remaining, but that was as close as the TexAnns could cut the lead.

The TexAnns shot 30 percent from the floor and 22 percent on 3-pointers while UCO shot 41 percent.

For the TexAnn offense, Tiara Tatum scored five points, McKinley Bostad (5), Kylie Collins (4), Hannah Allen (4), Trejouir Wilson (3), Shelby Mankins (2), and Nina Alvarez (1) rounded out the scoring efforts.

Tarleton will take on Regis on Sunday, November 19 at 2 p.m. at the Kitty Magee Arena in Denton.
