STEPHENVILLE (December 7, 2017) – All it took for the TexAnns to get back on track was Wisdom Gym as Tarleton snapped its three-game losing skid with an 87-61 win over Western New Mexico Thursday night.

It was the first home game since November 11 for Tarleton (4-4, 1-2 LSC) and Katie Webster was more than ready to put on a show for the home faithful. The junior from Rockwall poured in a career high 22 points on 7-8 shooting from the floor, including 2-2 from downtown, and 6-7 at the charity stripe. She added two assists and a steal to fill up her stat line.

Webster got things started just three seconds into the game with a layup to start an 8-0 run over the first minute and a half. Western New Mexico clawed back with a 16-9 run over the rest of the first quarter to cut the TexAnns’ lead to 17-16.

Things went back and forth over the opening minutes of the second quarter as the Mustangs pulled to a 24-24 tie, but three straight Webster free throws and a three-pointer from Tiara Tatum accounted for a 6-0 Tarleton surge and gave the TexAnns the last lead they would need. That surge started a 22-10 run over the rest of the half to send the TexAnns into the break with a 46-34 lead.

As she did in each of the first two quarters, Webster got the scoring started in the third to start a 23-8 TexAnn run over the quarter to pull away 69-42 after three. The Mustangs outscored Tarleton 19-18, but the damage was done as Tarleton cruised to its first league win of the year.

Behind Webster’s career night, Tarleton got double-digit scoring efforts from McKinley Bostad (13) and Mackenzie Hailey (12), who combined for 25 points. Tiara Tatum (7) and Kylie Collins (6) combined for 13 points to round out the Tarleton starters while eight of Tarleton’s nine reserves chipped in with points off the bench. Baylee Peck led the bench scoring with six to go along with six assists, which tied Bostad for the team high for the night.

Tarleton shot .569 from the floor and .611 from downtown for the night while outrebounding the Mustangs 31-23.

The TexAnns will host their league rival from the near side of New Mexico on Saturday night as Eastern New Mexico comes to town for a 2 p.m. LSC showdown in Wisdom Gym. There will be pictures with Santa in the lobby and free admission with every toy donation to the Optimist Club ‘Toys for Kids’ drive.
