(December 28,2017) — Skylar Stilwell scored 20 points and Stephenville won 60-45 while holding Early to just 26 percent shooting in the opening round of the TexasBank Holida Classic at Brownwood High School Thursday.

The Yellow Jackets established a lead by the end of the first quarter and kept the Lohnghorns at arm’s length the rest of the way, thanks largely to Stilwell going 3-5 from the arc and significant contributions from Cody Storrs – 810 points on 5-9 shooting and seven rebounds – and Quad Griffin – eight points and eight boards.

Stephenville faces Colorado City, a first-round winner over Brady, at 2 p.m. Friday, at Brownwood High School. The Yellow Jackets are shorthanded with no Blake Aragon for the tournament, but he will be back, and there are still more tools on the roster than head coach has had for much of the season’s early-going as Storrs and Cole Pettit were in football with Aragon until December 15 and Krause would have been except an injury kept him out of the final 10 games of the season.

Krause and Pettit each scored six Thursday while Mason Holstein had an off night shooting the ball and scored two points. Mason Castleberry chipped in the remaining two.

Stephenville was just 54 percent – 14-24 – fro the foul stripe. The Jackets shot 39 percent from the floor including 37 percent from deep while out-rebounding Early 38-33.
