Balanced scoring, Holstein’s all-around gem carry Jackets past C-City

(December 30, 2017) — Five Stephenville players scored at least nine points to lead the Yellow Jackets past De Leon with a 61-53 quarterfinal victory in the TexasBank Holiday Classic Friday morning at Brownwood High school.

The win in the 8:30 a.m. affair sets up an 8:30 p.m. Friday semifinal contest against Lampasas, an overtime winner against Midland Greenwood Friday morning. The championship for tonight’s winner is set for 7:10 p.m. Saturday, and the third-place game for the loser tips off at 4:30 p.m., all at The Coliseum.

Mason Holstein and Skylar Stilwell each scored 12 while Clay krause netted 11, Brendan Hayes and Cole Pettit nine for Stephenville. Holstein collected six rebounds, six assists and four steals while going 8-9 from the foul stripe. Hayes led everyone with 12 boards while Quade Griffin chipped in four points and Cody Storrs added three.

The Jackets took the lead for good with a 20-9 second-quarter advantage making it 30-20 at intermission.
