STEPHENVILLE (January 15, 2018)-  At last week’s Stephenville city council’s special session, the council discussed several issues regarding the Tourism and Visitor’s Bureau and SEDA. The only decision made was to authorize the city manager to hire a Tourism and Visitor’s Bureau manager.

City manager Allen Barnes will begin advertising for the manager position and hopes to hire someone within 60 to 90 days. The council has not voted on any policies or procedures or created an advisory board or overseeing council committee.

“I believe it is imperative to get a professional in the field to help this get started,” Barnes said.

All council members except Mark McClinton and Alan Nix voted in favor of the motion.

“I appreciate the effort put in on this, but I cannot support this for reasons I have stated before,” McClinton said. “To me, this is an expansion of government. I won’t put my name on it.”
