SAN ANTONIO – Jordan Withrow and Megan Rosewell combined for 12 innings of shutout softball as the TexAnns blanked Texas Woman’s and California (Pa.) 3-0 and 9-0 to notched their eighth and ninth victories of the season, respectively.

“I thought we did a good job of competing today,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “There are some things we need to clean up moving forward but wins are nice no matter how you get them.

“Our pitchers and catchers did a tremendous job of competing,” he continued. “I’m really proud of what they did today.”

GAME 1: Tarleton 3, Texas Woman’s 0

Jordan Withrow improved to 3-0 with her first complete game shutout of the season as the sophomore struck out 12 Pioneers to beat Texas Woman’s 3-0 in a non-conference game Saturday morning.

Withrow was rolling from the get-go as she struck out two batters in each of the first five innings while scattering just two hits. She ran into her first jam of the game in the sixth when a walk and a single brought the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Withrow got a soft fly ball to center to get out of the inning.

The sophomore ran into trouble again with back-to-back walks to lead off the seventh, but Withrow got a pop-up to short, a weak groundball back to herself, and a swinging strikeout to seal the deal.

Meanwhile, the offense gave her run support on a solo home run in the second from Tanna Huie and a two-run blast by Durante in the third. Tarleton had six hits in the game from six different players – Huie, Durante, Meghann Wrinkle, Nyka Wood, Georgia Capell, and Karli Herron.

Game 2: Tarleton 9, California (Pa.) 0 (5)

Megan Rosewell picked up right where Withrow left off the in the first game as the senior from Grapevine tossed the first complete game shutout of her TexAnn career to lead Tarleton to its ninth win of the year.

The long ball provided plenty of run support early as Georgia Capell teed off for the third home run of her young career with a three-run blast to left center to bring home Meghann Wrinkle and Nyka Wood for the 3-0 TexAnn lead with one away.

After back-to-back singles from Megan Durante and Tanna Huie plated another run for the 4-0 lead, Karli Herron made a visit to Souvenir City with a two-run shot to left center to cap off a six-run top of the first.

Capell and Herron struck again in the fifth as Capell went downtown for the second time for her first career multi-home run game. The freshman plated Wrinkle, who led off the inning with a double. After an error and a single from Durante and Huie, Herron drove Durante home with an RBI double to cap off the inning for Tarleton’s ninth run of the game.

Meanwhile, Rosewell was dealing from the circle.

After a one-out single in the first, Rosewell went on to sit down 10 in a row over the next three innings before striking out the side in the fifth to seal the deal. For the game, she allowed only two singles and one walk while striking out eight.

Capell and Herron combined for eight RBI on the afternoon with four hits and three runs scored. In addition to their two-hit performances, Huie and Wrinkle also had two hits for the day while Durante had one hit to round out the offense.

Tarleton will close out the St. Mary’s College Classic with two more games tomorrow, beginning at 12:15 p.m. against Regis and wrapping up against tournament host No. 22 St. Mary’s at 2:30 p.m.
