FORT WORTH (February 26, 2018) — The Texas Social Media Research Institute (TSMRI) at Tarleton State University hosts its annual Texas Social Media Conference on Tuesday, April 17, in partnership with Education Service Center Region 11.

The conference takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Region 11 service center, 1451 S. Cherry Lane in White Settlement, and is open to anyone interested in exploring social media—educators and administrators at all levels as well as business and industry leaders.

TSMRI brings together social media experts to provide insight and instruction on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Periscope, Vlogging and Snapchat, among other platforms. Sessions will incorporate the latest in social media research and best practices.

“Through this service learning partnership with Region 11, Tarleton undergraduate and graduate students will integrate knowledge gained through social media internships to provide support for the community,” said Dr. Jennifer T. Edwards, executive director of the institute.

Professionals in education should note sessions focused on social media and teaching, instructional design, social media and K-12 campus/district administration, and higher education.

Entrepreneurs and those working for local or state government, nonprofit organizations and businesses are invited to sessions on social media analytics, search engine optimization, social media campaign development, influencer campaigns, social media and entrepreneurship.

“I am excited about the opportunity to partner with Tarleton State University to work with the community,” said Renee Agent, coordinator of instructional services for ESC Region 11. “Through this conference, both partners can work with teachers, administrators, municipalities, small businesses and individuals.

“Nothing else connects people more than social media. This face-to-face event offers an opportunity for everyone to learn and brings together all of the people who impact education in Texas.”

Heather Buschart, a TSMRI social media coach and Tarleton communication studies junior, said the conference is certain to help businesses, especially small ones, expand their reach and increase their visibility.
