STEPHENVILLE – Behind a complete game two-hitter from Jordan Withrow, Tarleton found its way to the win column with a 5-1 victory over No. 21 Cameron to begin a three-game series Friday night.

“The girls did a great job tonight of coming to the park with a lot of energy,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “After a rocky first inning, Jordan and Nyka (Wood) really settled into a nice groove and the offense got a couple of timely hits. I’d still like to see us push more runs across when we have the chance, but ultimately our girls did a great job tonight. We need to come out tomorrow ready to go.”

Cameron struck quickly with a solo home run to lead off the game, but then Withrow was in complete control. The sophomore right-hander tossed all seven innings and allowed one run on two hits while striking out 10. It is Withrow’s sixth 10-strikeout performance of the season.

Meanwhile, the biggest at bat of the game for the Tarleton offense came in the first inning.

With bases loaded and two outs, Marisa Flores battled to the tune of a 10-pitch at bat before clearing the bases with a three-run double off the left field wall to put the TexAnns up 3-1 after one. Flores went 1-3 on the night with three RBI.

Tarleton added two more insurance runs in the fifth when Sami Shaffer scored on an error and Karli Herron plated Tanna Huie with an RBI single into left for a 5-1 advantage.

Georgia Capell and Meghann Wrinkle each boasted two hits while Megan Durante, Huie, Flores, Herron, and Kaitlyn Thomas had one hit each for the night.

Tarleton and Cameron will get back to action tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Stephenville.
