(March 18, 2018) — Cody Davis was an unrestricted free agent for less than 48 hours when he signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday.

Details of the contract were not immediately made available.

“It’s the highlight of my career so far, being able to come in to free agency and find a team that pursued me and really wanted me,” the Stephenville High School 2008 alumnus told Jaguars.com senior writer John Oehser, according to an article published by the official site of the AFC South champion Jaguars. “I’ve come to a great situation here in Jacksonville. It’s a great defense and hopefully I can contribute on defense and special teams.”

Davis saw his role steadily increase on defense with the Los Angeles Rams, where he spent five years contributing mostly on special teams.  He made five starts defensively over the past two seasons and has participated in 84 percent of special teams plays since 2016, according to Jaguarswire.usatoday.com.

The Rams, then based in St. Louis, signed Davis as an undrafted free agent out of Texas Tech in 2013. They returned to Los Angeles in 2016 and a year later achieved a stunning turnaround, improving from 4-12 to 11-5 and winning  NFC West title.

The Jaguars were 10-6 last season before winning twice in the playoffs and ultimately being eliminated by New England in the AFC Championship game.
