Gage Graham swatted in two RBIs, Daniel Luna struck out seven and Caleb Smith was solid in relief in an 8-2 District 8 4A win for Stephenville on the road against Waxahachie Life Monday.
While the win may have pushed the Yellow Jackets closer to the .500 mark for the season it was the first district win that was most important. Stephenville currently sits sixth in the district standings with a 1-3 mark.
Luna got the start for the Yellow Jackets and went four and two-thirds innings allowing four hits and one run. Luna lifted his season strikeout total to 31 for the season and the win was the first for him against six starts.
Gabe Moore (2-4) broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fifth inning with an RBI single and the Jackets never looked back as they added six more runs the rest of the way with two in the sixth inning and three in the final one.
Caleb Smith provided rock-solid relief as allowed four hits and didn’t issue a walk in lowering his earned run average to 2.27 on the season.
Gage Graham, Cody Storrs, Trace Morrison, Trevor Easter, Cole Stanley, Nolan Carroll, Clay Krause and Cade Dunavent all scored one each for the Jackets.
Eight Jackets collected hits with Moore leading the way with two while Graham, Storrs, Averhoff, Easter, Mason Castleberry, Krause, Dunavent rapped one each.
Spreading out the firepower might just be a good sign for Stephenville who is going to be working the meat of its district schedule over the next few weeks. Godley is maintaining a stranglehold with a 4-0 mark and a 14-0 overall record. Below is a look at the Jackets’ statistics against Waxahachie Life and the District 8 4A standings.
