STEPHENVILLE (April 3, 2018)– Tarleton blanked Texas A&M International in back-to-back games to sweep Tuesday’s doubleheader and push their record to 34-7. The TexAnns pushed their win total to 34 games, which ties the fifth-most wins in a season in program history.

For the second time in three weeks, Jordan Withrow flirted with a no-hitter as the sophomore right-hander dealt a one-hit shutout to lead the TexAnns past Texas A&M International 2-0 Tuesday afternoon.

The Dustdevils got a single into left field from the second batter of the game but then Withrow was in complete control. She threw the next 6.2 innings without allowing a single hit. Meanwhile, Tarleton tacked on single runs in the first on a bases-loaded walk from Marisa Flores and a three-base error by the Dustdevils in the second that allowed Elizabeth Svienty to score from first.

That’s all the support Withrow would need as she racked up her 19th pitching win of the season with seven innings, allowing the one hit and three walks while striking out eight. The four-time LSC Pitcher of the Week continued to extend her league-leading strikeout total to 179.

Kaitlyn Thomas had two of Tarleton’s four hits in the game with Meghann Wrinkle and Megan Durante accounting for the other two.

Haley Freyman and Megan Rosewell combined to extend Tarleton’s scoreless inning streak to 17 by tossing the team’s second shutout of the afternoon in a 4-0 victory over the Dustdevils. Tarleton has not allowed a run since the fourth inning of Saturday’s series finale at No. 4 Angelo State.

The game was in a 0-0 deadlock through three but Tarleton broke through on the run column when an errant throw on a sacrifice bunt allowed Meghann Wrinkle to score from second after reaching on a single and a stolen base. Marisa Flores followed up with an RBI single for a two-run lead after four.

Following a shutdown inning from Rosewell, the TexAnns plated two more in the fifth on an error and an RBI squeeze bunt by Nyka Wood to bring home Georgia Capell for the 4-0 edge.

That would be all the offense Freyman and Rosewell needed in the shutout.

Freyman earned the win with three innings of work, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out two. Rosewell tossed the final four innings to earn her first save, allowing just one hit and two walks with a pair of strikeouts.

Capell led the offense with two hits while Wrinkle, Flores, and Svienty combined for the other three TexAnn hits.

Tarleton will be back in action this weekend for a three-game series against Lone Star Conference rival Texas Woman’s, beginning Friday at 7 p.m.
