STEPHENVILLE –Tarleton Softball moved up one spot in the NCAA South Central Region poll, which was released Wednesday afternoon, and now sits at No. 4.

With a record of 43-8 under second-year head coach Mark Cumpian, Tarleton is back in the regional rankings for the second straight season and second consecutive week.

Colorado Mesa remains atop the regional poll despite losing two games last weekend to Colorado Christian, who went from No. 8 to 6 with the series win over the Mavericks, while four Lone Star Conference teams hold the next four spots –Angelo State (2), West Texas A&M (3), Tarleton (4) and Texas A&M-Commerce (5).

With Colorado Christian moving up to No. 6, Cameron dropped a spot to No. 7 while Regis (CO), Rogers State, and Texas A&M-Kingsville round out the top 10. A Heartland team is guaranteed a place among the top eight as the conference tournament winner will get an automatic berth into the national tournament in place of the lowest at-large seed. Rogers State is the highest-ranked team from the Heartland at No. 9, putting No. 8 Regis (CO) in jeopardy.

Eight teams will represent the South Central region in the NCAA playoffs, which includes the tournament champions from the Lone Star, Heartland, and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conferences as well as five at-large teams from those leagues. The top two seeds in the region will play host to a double elimination tournament, after which the winning teams from each location will meet in the Super Regional Series for the chance to play in the Women’s College World Series.

The No. 1 seed in the rankings will play host to the No. 4, 5, and 8 teams while the No. 2 seed will host the No. 3, 6, and 7 teams.

Tarleton will be back at home this weekend to close out the regular season on ‘Senior Weekend’ when the No. 15 TexAnns play host to UT Permian Basin, beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
