STEPHENVILLE – In the final home games of the season, Tarleton shutout UT Permian Basin in back-to-back games to complete the sweep on Senior Day and close out the regular season. It was senior day for Megan Rosewell, Marisa Flores, Meghann Wrinkle, Megan Durante, Kaitlyn Thomas, Haley Freyman, and Nyka Wood.

“The girls did a great job of coming out today and staying focused,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “I know that on Senior Day, there are a lot of distractions and other thoughts but I’m proud of the way they were able to channel their focus and get two wins today.

“This senior class has been a joy to watch since they’ve arrived on campus,” he continued. “All seven of them have brought something unique to this team and I couldn’t be more proud of them. I will miss all of them but, make no mistake about it, we don’t plan to say ‘good-bye’ anytime soon. We have a lot of softball left to play.”

Game 1: No. 15 Tarleton 8, UT Permian Basin 0 (5)

Tarleton came out swinging to the tune of a six-run first inning while Megan Rosewell kept the Falcons off the board in an 8-0 victory to begin the day.

Despite battling through an injury all season, Tarleton’s all-time leader in wins, appearances, and innings pitched got to take the circle one final time in Stephenville as Haley Freyman got the start and recorded the first out of the game before giving way to Megan Rosewell out of the bullpen. Freyman exited the field to hugs from her coaches and teammates.

Meanwhile, the Tarleton offense opened the game with a six spot beginning with an RBI single from Megan Durante. Tanna Huie followed Durante’s RBI hit with an RBI double off the left-field wall before Karli Herron ripped a two-run single up the middle for a 4-0 Tarleton lead.

Georgia Capell capped off the inning with a two-RBI bloop single into the center to give Tarleton a 6-0 lead. Tarleton added one more in the second on a home run from Huie and one more in the fourth on an RBI fielder’s choice from Marisa Flores.
