Elizondo, Jimenez named to Lone Star Conference All-Academic Team

STEPHENVILLE—Gretzel Jimenez and Jarred Elizondo were named to the All-Academic Team for the first time in their outdoor careers Wednesday afternoon as the all-academic awards were released by the Lone Star Conference.
To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.30-grade point average and have reached sophomore status both athletically and academically. The Academic Player of Year award and All-Academic Team are selected from the list of academically qualified players, with the league’s sports information directors voting based on both academic and athletic achievement.

Jimenez is a sophomore Physical Therapy major from China Spring, she has six top-four finishes this year and a career-best time in the 1500-meter run (4:48.40). Jimenez won gold at the ASU David Noble Relays with a time of 4:50.28 in the 1500-meter run. Jimenez saw her best time in the 800-meter run (2:23.34) this season at the Cactus Cup and earned a bronze medal.
Elizondo is a sophomore Engineering major from Bandera. Elizondo has an impressive five top-five finishes thus far this season. The sophomore distance runner posted a career best in the 1500-meter run (4:01.54) at the Cactus Cup earlier this season. Elizondo also saw a career-best time of 15:27.70 in the 5000-meter run at the ASU David Noble Relays.
Both athletes received LSC All-Academic honors earlier this season for their efforts on the track and in the classroom during the indoor season.
The Texans and TexAnns will compete in the Lone Star Conference Championships on Thursday, May 3 through Saturday, May 5 in San Angelo.
