SAN ANGELO – No. 15 Tarleton Softball was eliminated from the Lone Star Conference Tournament after No. 6 Angelo State hit a walk-off 3-run home run in the ninth inning to win 8-5 in the semifinals.

The TexAnns entered the LSC Tournament as the No. 5-ranked team in the South Central Regional poll. The NCAA Selection Show will take place on Monday, May 7 at 9 a.m. CT with eight teams from the Lone Star, Heartland and RMAC advancing to the regional tournament.

“We fought and battled all game,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “Angelo State is a great team and we knew we had to come ready to compete. Now we have to get geared up and ready to go for the Regional Tournament next week and I know the girls will be up for the challenge.”

When you have two teams ranked in the top 15 in the country and both over 45 wins on the season, the game was more like an NCAA Semi Final game rather than just the LSC semis.

Angelo State held a 1-0 lead through three innings before Tarleton broke through on the scoreboard. Marisa Flores laced a 2-run double to left center that scored Megan Durante and Tanna Huie for a 2-1 lead. In the fifth, Nyka Wood hit a 2-out double to left center to score Maddie Quintanar all the way from first and gave the TexAnns a 3-1 advantage.

Megan Rosewell started in the circle for the TexAnns and threw four innings, allowing four hits, three runs (one earned), with one strikeout.

The Rambelles tied the game up at 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth when a throwing error home with the bases loaded brought home a pair of runs. The Rambelles regained the lead at 4-3 in the sixth inning on an RBI single.

In the top of the seventh, Quintanar and Georgia Capell had back-to-back singles to open the inning. After a walk to Wood, Durante stepped to the plate with the bases load and ripped a 2-run single up the middle to give the TexAnns a 5-4 lead. Durante led the TexAnns with a 3-for-4 game.

Angelo State would go on to score the final four runs, which included one in the seventh to send it to extras, and then the home run in the ninth.
