GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Two big innings cost Tarleton in game one of the South Central Regional Tournament as Texas A&M-Commerce topped the TexAnns 15-8 on Thursday at Colorado Mesa.

The Lions scored eight runs in the first inning and seven more in the sixth after the TexAnns came all the way back to tie the score.

The TexAnns will play the loser of Colorado Mesa and Rogers State in an elimination game on Friday, May 11 at 3:30 p.m. CST.

Texas A&M-Commerce scored eight runs on six hits in the first inning to take what seemed like a commanding lead to start the game.

The TexAnns chipped away, inning by inning, to get within reach. Marisa Flores’ sacrifice fly to center scored Megan Durante to put the TexAnns on the board in the second inning.

The third inning was a big boost in momentum offensively for the TexAnns, as they were able to bring home three runs to cut the deficit in half. A single by Georgia Capell followed by a walk and hit by pitch loaded the bases for the TexAnns. Tanna Huie and Flores each had RBI singles and Karli Herron was hit by a pitch to bring home the third run of the inning.

Herron’s next at-bat came in the bottom of the fifth, and the junior smashed a two-out solo home run to left center to make it a three-run game at 8-5.

With six outs to go, Meghann Wrinkle and Durante hit a pair of doubles to open up the sixth inning with Durante’s shot driving home Wrinkle. After intentionally walking Huie, that brought up Flores with two on and one out. Flores ripped a game-tying, a two-run triple to right center to complete the comeback at 8-8.

However, with two outs and the bases loaded for A&M-Commerce in the bottom of the sixth, the Lions had all-American hitter Mariah Jameyson up at the plate and the senior connected for a bases-clearing double that proved to be the game-winner.

In the circle, Megan Rosewell came on in relief in the first inning and was able to hold the Lions scoreless for four straight innings to keep the TexAnns within striking distance. Rosewell fell to 17-2 on the season, but only allowed one earned run in five innings.

Offensively for the TexAnns, they had 13 hits in the game with four players providing multi-hit games: Georgia Capell (2-for-5); Megan Durante (2-for-3); Tanna Huie (2-for-3); and Marisa Flores (2-for-3, 5 RBI).
