HOUSTON – Casey Wild tied a school record and is tied for first place after the opening round of the NCAA Division II Championship at the Bay Oaks Country Club.
Wild, who is playing as an individual at the NCAA Championship, carded a 3-under-par 69 on the Par-72, 6,190-yard course, which ties the school record for lowest round by an individual at the NCAA Championship. Isabel Jimenez-Perea also shot a 69 (-3) back in 2016. The senior from Australia is tied with Kiira Riihijarvi from the University of Tampa.
Wild, the No. 39-ranked player in NCAA Division II on GolfStat, started on the back nine and quickly went atop the leaderboard after recording a birdie on three of the first four holes. She posted a bogey-free back nine with three birdies and six pars. On the front nine, Wild shot even par with only one bogey and recovered with a birdie two holes later. Overall, Wild had four birdies and 13 pars in the round. Wild leads the field in Par 4 scoring at 3.80 (-2). She also shot even par on Par 5’s and -1 on Par 3’s.
This was the first of four rounds at the NCAA Championships. Wild will tee off in the second round on Thursday at 8:35 a.m.
