STEPHENVILLE (July 31, 2018) – Staff Sergeant (SSG) and active duty military recruiter, Joshua Rigney, created a program called Future Soldier Training for people who are interested in joining the army.

Participants can meet at The U.S. Army Recruiting Office at 2900 West Washington in Stephenville at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

“Right now, because it’s the summertime and nobody is in school, we do 8:30 a.m. at our office Tuesdays and Thursdays and then once school starts back up, it’s probably going to be Thursdays at 5 p.m,” Rigney said. “We meet over here at the office so (that) we can talk to some of our future soldiers (and see) if there’s any updates or anything. We meet up usually on Tuesdays and then we do circuit training, and then on Thursdays, we either meet up here or go for a run here, or we’ll meet up, do what we need to do, and then roll out to the park or something like that.”

Individuals need to be at least 17 years of age to participate and there is no cost to join. Also, friends and family members can also work out with their future soldier.

“Age-wise, I mean it doesn’t have to be people coming into the military,” Rigney said. “A lot of times families come out with people before, and they may not have any inclination to join whatsoever but they just come out to work out with their children or family members or whatever it may be.”

Rigney explained the reason he decided to create Future Soldier Training.

“We do this for our future soldiers who are getting ready to ship out for basic training or some of those people who are waiting on medical documents or just people who are trying to decide whether or not they would like to come in and figure out if this is something they would like to do,” Rigney said.

For more information, Rigney recommends participants friend either him or one of the other NCOs (Non-commissioned officer) on Facebook.

“If people are interested and looking at military service and trying to decide if they think they can handle it, by all means, come out,” Rigney said. “If they want to come out for a workout, you know, help support a family member or a friend, by all means, come, because the more people we have, the more fun it is. We’re not Camp Gladiator. This is for military prep training, but at the end of the day, if people are interested, by all means, come out and that way, they can decide at that point.”
