Dublin is 3-0 for the first time since 1999 after the Lions made the best of their homecoming night with a huge upset win over #4 DeLeon 46-23.
Perhaps the most impressive statistic of the evening was DeLeon did not score after halftime.
Junior quarterback Cy Wing threw for 372 yards and four touchdowns on a night Dublin had been waiting 19 years to see. Seeing as how the two teams hadn’t played in a nearly a decade the win was all the much sweeter for Dublin.

“These guys have worked hard to get where we are,” coach Bob Cervetto said. “This isn’t just the 2018 Lions this is the last couple of years coming together. The coaching staff did an amazing job. That’s what so neat about this deal is how my staff has worked toward this happening and never giving up along the way.”
It could have been easy to give up after Dublin went 3-7 last year and still was only two points away from making the playoffs. That’s a bitter pill to swallow but the Lions have figured out a way to sweeten things and 3-0 is as sweet as it gets.
Things looked sweet early for Dublin with Wing tossing the first of his touchdowns as he hit Hagan Huffman who ended up in the end zone 70-yards later with four minutes off the first quarter clock.
Cervetto sent the message the Lions were “going for the jugular” when the Lions attempted a PAT pass that failed.
“We knew going into this game we were going to have to score because DeLeon is going to put points on the board,” Cervetto said.
DeLeon’s Dynamic Duo Kevin Yeager and Chris Cox did just that on the Bearcats’ next possession as they hooked up for a 24-yard scoring pass and a 7-6 lead following Emery Amick’s kick.
Dublin didn’t give the Bearcats much time to enjoy the feeling as Jacob Stanley scored on a 35-yard pass from Wing, Renteria nailed a 32-yard field goal, Huffman scored on an 11-yard run, and Blake Porter returned a fumble 33-yards.
Suddenly it was 29-7 and the first quarter wasn’t over, and DeLeon was forced into playing catchup football. Jorge Gonzales’ six-yard run made it 29-14 heading into the second quarter where DeLeon began to make it interesting with a safety and Gonzales scoring his second touchdown from 16 yards out.
“Our defense played lights out you had guys in there like Jared Ricks just plugging away on every play,” Cervetto said.
It would be the Bearcats final touchdown, and it came with 10:51 to play in the second quarter meaning DeLeon went nearly three quarters without a score as Stanley gathered in a 65-scoring pass from Wing and Renteria popped a 33-yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
The second half was a defensive struggle with the rainy weather not helping either team, and only Stanley found the end zone with Wing finding him for a 66-yard scoring pass at the 11:20 mark of the fourth quarter.
Wing’s four passing touchdowns came via a 12-20-0 effort for 356 yards with Stanley collecting the bulk of those with eight catches for 225 yards. Huffman had the most significant per catch average of the evening with two for 135 yards.
Yeager finished the night 10-19 for 115 yards. Gonzales led the Bearcats ground game with 124 yards on 20 carries while Huffman had 11 carries for 100 yards.
