Getting even is sweet, and it’s even more delicious when your football team moves to 6-0 like the Dublin Lions did Friday with a 28-27 win over Tolar.
A Dublin team that hasn’t gone this far into a season without a loss since 1979 and while that’s great coffee shop talk coach Bob Cervetto and his staff is far more focused on that fact Dublin is 1-0 in district play.

The Lions missed the playoff by two points last season, and it was Tolar who left them sitting on the sidelines.
While it’s maybe too early to tell, Dublin just might have returned the favor with their come from behind win which has become almost a habit for Lions who also came back to beat Albany and Breckenridge earlier this season.
The Rattlers managed four touchdowns but never had a drive longer than 36 yards to get to end zone and with 11:52 remaining they led by 13 points.
Touchdowns by Hagan Huffman and Cy Wing gave Dublin the lead with 2:37 remaining in play and things were far from over as Tolar would get the ball back for one last chance.
That last chance boiled down to be a fourth-down and direct snap to the running back that linebacker Jared Ricks smelled out and stuffed a yard behind the line of scrimmage to seal the win.
Huffman was the Lions’ leading ground gainer as he rushed for 116 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Wing completed 12 of 16 passes for 91 yards and rushed two touchdowns. Jacob Stanley was Wing’s top target with eight catches for 85 yards.
Both teams defenses played strong with one takeaway each with the Lions allowing 252 yards while the offense generated 283.
The Lions’ fan base is rooting for them to remain undefeated and for those digging back into the history, they will find the last Dublin team to go 7-0 was the 1966 Lions who went 9-0 before losing to Ranger 23-20.
Only one Dublin team had gone undefeated, and that was back in 1935, and that squad went 10-0-1 tying San Saba 6-6 in their final game.
